Quite a week starting on the 3rd - Mryna & Sabine contributed 1,100 lbs to the weekend total of 1,630! Thanks to the volunteers at Chimney Park, Bay Bluffs parking lot, Naval Live Oaks, Pace/Hwy 90 and Bob Sikes bridge
Volunteers came thru this week - six at Portofino dodged rain drops, Mryna & Sabine with 480 lbs on 9 mile, Mryna with 303 lbs near Dollar General on 9 Mile, myself at Park West, 2 residents on their weekly walk at Park West and Barbara on the beach - 859 lbs!
Thanks to Navy’s VCT Class 25-05 at Veterans Park and at the other sites - Gulf Breeze, Wayside and Pace/Hwy 90
“Bound” water in single use water bottles thrown in garbage dumps - no longer available
An alternative to indestructible plastic straw
The first two weekends and several individual (Mryna) cleanups, 1,196 lbs of litter gathered. Sites were at the Nat’l Seashore, Chimney Park, Payne Bridge…..
Today, 452 lbs was added to the yearly total by 33 volunteers - thanks Knights
Yearly total was down - loss of Bay Bluffs Park as a cleanup spot (under repairs?) and city cutting back brush at various parks minimizing trash left behind by homeless.
off 9th Ave. Collected 23 lbs, 19 water bottles, six Polar and five Whataburger cups
Beach Toys and lots & lots of bottle caps (hundreds)!!! Unfortunately in Florida, natural springs supply water for bottle production. Blue Triton Brands is the major bottler. Why use natural spring water? COST!! Coke and Pepsi pay to use city water as a source. Blue Triton recently paid a $115 fee for up to 1.0 million gallons per day from Ginnie Springs! When will the city and county install more water bottle fill stations? (not water fountains!!). Ocean Hour with an Impact 100 grant will be installing 5 stations in the city
At Park West and the Dog Park, 18 volunteers picked up 218 lbs of litter. For the first time, I saw no Polar Ice or Whataburger styrofoam cups!
Three sites on Saturday, Bob Sikes Bridge (N), Bartram & Wayside Parks produced 375 lbs collected by 23 volunteers. Daniel and company picked up 49 lbs on Hwy 90 bridge to Pace on Sunday
